Farmers within a 50-mile radius of Durra's Texas plant supply raw wheatstraw fibers. The Durra support extends to protecting the environment: Building a 2,000-square-foot facility requires 18 acres of wheatstraw, renewable each year. Completing the same job with conventional materials requires an acre of clear-cut forest, which doesn't replace itself for at least a generation.
